JEDDAH, 4 September 2007 — Al-Sanbouk for Marine Equipment, located on Al-Malik Road, for the first time ever is offering the public a one-day first aid course free of charge.
“Accidents can happen to anyone. This includes mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers and friends. As humans and as Muslims we should always feel an urge to help others. Yet helping others must be done in the right way ensuring we don’t increase the person’s pain,” said Tamer Abu Ramadan, a diving instructor at Al-Sanbouk.
“One needs to know the basics of how to help people in distress. This is a necessity not just for divers but for people in general as well,” he added.
Al-Sanbouk is offering diving courses of various levels. Abu Ramadan added that the majority of people that visit the center take open water and advanced open water courses. Around 400 to 500 people attend the center annually and around 100 to 150 divers undergo first aid courses.
The courses normally cost SR750. Free courses are being offered on Sept. 5 (from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.) and on Sept. 19 (from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m.). “We are offering it free. But attendees that would like to get a certificate showing they have attended the course can obtain the Emergency First Response (EFR) certificate by paying SR250,” said Abu Ramadan.
The course is being offered in conjunction with the Professional Association of Diving Instructors (PADI) and is open to both men and women. For further information telephone 0507474724.
