JEDDAH, 4 September 2007 — The BMG Saudi Index ended yesterday’s session gaining 0.3 points and rising slightly by 0.07 percent to reach 421.00 points. The index turnover reached SR5.13 billion ($1.37 billion), advancing by 4.6 percent from Sunday’s turnover.
The industrial sector was the only sector finishing on a negative note. The sector lost 4.75 points and went down by 0.47 percent. Both the services and the agricultural sectors performed well in yesterday’s session. The agricultural sector rose by 4.5 percent and adding 37.85 points, and the services sector was able to gain 12.75 points and improved by 1.3 percent.
Al-Rajhi Bank’s stock, whose weight in the index is 48.3 percent, made positive results, as it increased by only 0.3 percent. On the other hand, stock at the Saudi Basic Industries Corp. declined by SR1 to reach SR129.50, indicating a decrease by 0.77 percent. Such a decline negatively affected the performance of the industrial sector, leading to its decline in yesterday’s trading session. Despite this decline in the SABIC, the index managed to end up on a positive mood due to the positive performance of the majority of the stocks in the index.
