JEDDAH, 6 September 2007 — Saudi Arabia lost their first match 9-6 against Egypt in the Arab Water Polo Championship for under 23 in Cairo. According to Adel Al-Malki, “the game was exciting as the first three quarters ended level but we lost it in the fourth and we hope we can make up for the loss tomorrow”. The Saudis play two matches today against Morocco at 11 a.m. and Algeria at 7 p.m.
Soccer Team Set for Friendlies
JEDDAH — The Saudi national football team will start a five-day training camp in Riyadh today in preparation for the upcoming events. During the camp the team will face national football team of Ghana in a friendly match on Tuesday at King Fahd International stadium in Riyadh. The national team committee at the Saudi Football Federation announced yesterday the team lineup as follows: Yassir Al-Misseleim, Assaf Al-Qarni, Ahmed Al-Bahri, Ibrahim Hazzazi, Kamil Al-Moussa, Talal Al-Khaibary, Rida Takkar, Walid Abdrabuh, Osamah HAwasawi, Jamaan Al-Jamaan, Omar Al-Ghamdi, Khalid Aziz, Tayseer Al-Jasim, Soud Kariri, Abduo Otaif, Ahmed Al-Moussa, Mohammed Al-Shalhoub, Abdulrhman Al-Qahtani, Ahmed Darweesh, Yassir Al-Qahtani, Malik Mouath, Saad Al-Harthi, Nassir Al-Shmrani and Salih Bashir.
Hilal to Host Asian Volleyball for Clubs
JEDDAH — Al-Hilal club will host the 2008 Asian Volleyball Championship for clubs. The club is in search of a new coach to replace Hilal team Yugoslavian coach Mouru whose contract ended this year. Coach Hajji of Bosnia is a leading candidate for the position, sources told Arab News.
SR10 Million Cash Boost for Ansar
JEDDAH — Al-Ansar football club of Al-Madinah is to receive SR10 million for the new season to improve and strenghten the club. After shipping Nami out to Al-Hilal club and getting SR6 million transfer fee Al-Ansar are now looking to deal out Raid Al-Baraka to any interested club for SR5 million.
Ahli Handball Players
JEDDAH — The Saudi Handball Federation had requested nine players from Al-Ahli club to join the training camp this month in preparation for the Arab Games to be held in Egypt in November. The players are Bandar Al-Harbi, Ahmad Al-Inbawai, Talal Ayed, Ghasan Al-Jadaani, Manaf Al Saeed, Hussain Ikhwan, Faisal Fallatah, Ghazi Al-Harbi, and Turki Al-Inbawi.
Zahrani Picks Watani
JEDDAH — Khidir Al-Zahrani of Al-Ahli received offers from various clubs, among them, Al-Hazm and Al-Watani. He also received a phone call from Al-Ahli club of Qatar requesting for his resume to study it and to offer him a deal at their club. “It is more likely I’ll be joining Al-Watani because they offered me the best offer so far,” said Al-Zahrani who was a top scorer at the boys and youth divisions before moving up to the first team.
