RIYADH, 9 September 2007 — Police this year arrested 11,351 criminals in 162 raids across Riyadh, which resulted in a 17 percent reduction in crime in general, Riyadh police announced yesterday. The city has also seen a 25 percent reduction in thefts this year.

Police say the reductions were mainly due to the efforts of police patrol units, the Special Forces unit and the Criminal Investigation Department, which was credited with carrying out the raids.
