JEDDAH, 12 September 2007 — Abrar-ul-Haq, a very popular Pakistani pop bhangra and folk singer, was the star attraction at a function organized by the Consulate General of Pakistan to mark the 60th anniversary of the country’s independence.
The function was held at the Pakistan International School (English Section) auditorium and the chief guest was Pakistan’s Ambassador Shahid Karimullah. Consul General Zaigham Uddin Azam delivered a speech in Arabic much to the delight of the audience.
The function, dubbed “Saudi-Pak Musical Evening,” showcased a cultural extravaganza of Pakistan and Saudi Arabia that was spiced up by the performance of a veteran Saudi vocalist.
The function attracted Saudis who came to see the live performance of Pakistani singers.
The proceeds of the show will go to flood victims in Pakistan, said Shaukat Ali, consul welfare, who was the chief architect of the program.
Abrar, an exceptionally talented songwriter and creator of memorable catchy melodies, dominated the stage, supported by local singers including Asif, Syed Masood Abbasi and Zaki Anwar.
Wasim Shahid conducted the function in a very professional manner.

Abrar-ul-Haq offered bouquets to the representatives of the sponsors in a gesture of appreciation from the organizers.
