JEDDAH, 15 September 2007 — The Jeddah unit of Kerala-based Sunni Yuvagana Sangham (SYS), an organization that stresses on social and economic development, announced Rs.2,500,000 in aid for the poor and needy at a press conference here.
The unit set aside this budget for the current year following a meeting of its office-bearers here.
The aid will be used to provide tools and equipment for workers free of charge while a portion of the budget has been set aside for education, medical treatment and schemes that assist in marriages of poor youths.
The SYS also plans to give Rs.500 every month to each of some 140 destitute families in Kerala besides giving sewing machines to 50 poor families. They also plan to meet the educational expenses of meritorious students and give scholarships to poor students studying in religious institutions.
The office-bearers also finalized the statement of accounts for last year highlighting the areas of aid given from the Rs.2,000,000 amount spent. The money was used to construct houses for poor families and fund marriages. Construction of three housing units has been completed and work on 10 houses are in progress.
A three-month campaign is currently on highlighting the need to curb social evils that affect family values. A welfare committee has been set up to help people facing various problems here. Cheroor Abdullah Musliyar, Mohammad Ali Faizi, Abdurahiman Malahiri, Abdurrab and Abdurazak Karinkallayi attended the press conference.
