MUMBAI, 16 September 2007 — The Bombay High Court has sought an explanation from Bollywood star Shahrukh Khan on his alleged violation of building rules and has asked the Bombay Municipal Corporation (BMC) to file an affidavit within two weeks on the matter.
The actor is said to have violated government regulations in a structure he had constructed adjacent to his bungalow Mannat, located in the Bandra suburb of Mumbai.
The court, hearing a public interest litigation filed by Brashtachar Nirmoolan Sangtana, a nongovernment organization, directed Khan to file a detailed affidavit in two weeks in response to allegations of the NGO that he had violated development control rules while constructing a multi-storied building behind his bungalow off of Mount Mary Road in Bandra.
The petitioners have sought the demolition of the building on the grounds that Khan has violated the BMC’s sanction development plan.
The actor’s wife, Gauri Khan, has filed an affidavit in the court stating that Khan has availed of all the necessary permissions from the BMC authorities.
