MAKKAH, 18 September 2007 — Brig. Ali ibn Muhammad Al-Ghamdi, assistant director of Makkah police, is the new director of Jeddah police. Interior Minister Prince Naif issued an order appointing Al-Ghamdi to the key post recently.
The brigadier, who is an expert in security matters, graduated from the Security College and worked at different departments in the Jeddah police. He also had worked as the police chief in Rabigh.
Meanwhile, Makkah police arrested 635 violators of residence regulations, 57 beggars, 361 illegal street vendors and 317 others involved in various criminal activities in a number of search operations in various districts in Makkah last week, police spokesman Maj. Abdul Mohsen Al-Maiman, said yesterday.
He added that those arrested included two people running illegal telephone booths and a man and woman in suspicious circumstances in the Misfala area.
