JEDDAH, 19 September 2007 — The case brought by a Saudi woman against the Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and the Prevention of Vice in the Riyadh Court of Grievances has been postponed for the fourth time to Nov. 27, according to the woman’s lawyer.
“Representatives from the commission failed to show up in court yesterday although they were the ones who asked the judge to postpone the hearing on previous occasions,” said Abdul Rahman Al-Lahem.
Al-Lahem is representing Umm Faisal and her daughter who were suing commission members over an incident in 2004. The lawyer said he and his clients would persist in following up the case. “We want to make sure that no one is above the law and that the government implements the rules that protect human rights,” he added.
