JEDDAH, 20 September 2007 — Al-Bisitein football club of Bahrain and Saudi Fahd Fallatah of Al-Shabab club are close to sealing a deal. Fallatah is traveling in two days’ time to Bahrain along with agent Ibrahim Al-Moussa colleague Bandar Takroni, former Wehda club player to sign his new contract.
Meanwhile, Al-Ahli meet Damk in a friendly match at the Prince Sultan ibn Fahd Stadium at 10 p.m. today. Ahli next face Heraa tomorrow and Al-Rabea club next Sunday.
De Souza Now Ittihadi
JEDDAH — Finally, documentation ended and official papers were received from the FIFA to pave the way for the transfer of Brazilian Robert De Souza to Al-Ittihad club. De Souza makes his debut match with Ittihad against Al-Nasr today. Serbian Slimo Vich is handling the team on an interim basis after regular coach Candinho left the Kingdom for good to be with his ailing daughter in Brazil.
Saudi National Cage Team Fly to Tunisia
JEDDAH — After finishing their three weeks training camp here, the Saudi national basketball team will fly to Tunisia tomorrow for further training over a period of 20 days.
This training regimen would hopefully put the team in top shape for the 11th Pan Arab Games in Egypt in November and King Abdullah Cup friendly championship to be held in Jordan earlier on Oct. 14. Due to the injury to team Captain Walid Attiyah, and exclusion of Mohammed Abu Jabal, the team officials decided to include talented basketball players from the youth team who secured the GCC championship this year.
Volleyball Team Training
JEDDAH — Starting from Sept. 25 the Saudi national volleyball team will undergo a training camp in Jeddah and Riyadh for the Arab Games in November and the GCC championship in Kuwait. Serbian Radoslav Svircev will train the players in Riyadh, while the ones in Jeddah will be under assistant coach Wavan Kirkovich. The team then will travel for another training camp abroad. The team members are as follows: Khalel Hijji, Naif Al-Buhassoun, Misfir Al-Bishi, Yahya Hanash, Ahmed Al-Bikheit, Ibrahim Al-Harbi, Yassir Al-Makawni, Abdullah Al-Bahili, Adnan Al-Miani, Thamir Al-Doussari, Shareif Al-Khaleifah, from (Riyadh) Ismael Al-Khaibary, Faris Al-Omari, Majid Al-Jihani, AsaadAzouz, Ali Mabkhout, Ali Al-Wadii from (Jeddah).
NCB, Ajwaa Reach Quarterfinals
JEDDAH — National Commercial Bank (NCB) football team and Ajwaa advanced into the quarterfinals of the 3rd NCB Ramadan annual soccer tournament at NCB stadium here. NCB downed Al-Khair Company 2-0, while Ajwaa beat Al-Hada Water Company 1-0 on a strike by Ziyad Hawasawi who is now the leading scorer in the event. Twelve teams are seeing action in this annual competition. They are NCB, Al-Hada Water Company, Al-Khair Company, and Ajwaa forming (Group A), Al-Jandoul Company, Mohammed Aboud Al-Amoudi, Al-Fao Bagaddou International, and Bridgestone bracketed in (Group B), and Abdulkhaliq Saeed Company, Bugshan, Bank Al-Jazira and Al-Sahel Oils Company comprised in (Group C).
Today Bugshan play Al-Sahel Oils Company, and Abdulkhaliq Saeed Company meet Bank Al-Jazira, who will be captained by former international footballer Abdullah Sulaiman.
Saudi Fencers Gear Up for Arab Games
JEDDAH — The Saudi national fencing team started on Tuesday their training camp in Al-Dammam in preparation for the 11th Pan Arab Games to be held in Egypt in November. The team will include 12 fencers and eight will be chosen afterwards to participate in an additional training camp abroad in a European country.
Short Fencing Course
JEDDAH — Masters Academy for Fencing and Martial Arts is offering a new short fencing course as part of its campaign to promote fencing in the Kingdom. The course will run from Sept. 22 to Oct. 3 at the academy at Professional building on Prince Sultan ibn Salman Street. Training time is scheduled from 10:30 p.m. to 11: 30 p.m. Saturday to Thursday. Sport consultant and fencing expert coach Omar Abu Romia will teach the course and introduce the participants to the sport’s background and the use of sabre, epee and foil in addition to hosting friendlies among them at the end of the course.
