JUBAIL, 30 September 2007 — Because Ramadan is a season where people can be seen in Saudi Arabia giving handouts to the poor, it’s also high season for begging. The daily Al-Watan reported yesterday that a group of 17 beggars, all women, began fighting outside a mosque in Jubail as they were jockeying for the best locations to hit up worshippers for cash as they exited. The fight got out of control and very loud, so somebody in the mosque called the cops. By the time they arrived, all of the beggars had run away.
