JEDDAH, 3 October 2007 — Investigators in the Jeddah Passport Department, responsible for enforcing Saudi immigration laws, arrested recently a Sudanese national who is accused of stealing SR500,000 from his employer in Taif and attempted to flee the country by turning himself in to authorities for deportation with no ID and under a false name. According to newspaper reports yesterday, a Taif police bulletin led Passport Department officials to identify the suspect before he could be deported.
Authorities gave the suspect’s real name as Muhammad Fadle Abdullah Abdul Maula and say he confessed to his crime based on positive identification by his sponsor, Saleh ibn Saed Al-Ghamdi.
A senior Passport Department official said the suspect was arrested and taken to a police station in Jeddah to be transferred to Taif later.
In another case involving a Bangladeshi national who was found stabbed to death in Jeddah, authorities say they have not captured a suspect yet but have ruled out armed robbery because the body was found with a wallet and mobile phone. The victim was working in a company in Bahra, south of Jeddah. He was killed in one of the narrow alleys near his house while he was going home.
“The investigation in this case is ongoing,” said an official. “We are interrogating his family to find his friends and workmates to find clues to his murder.”
