JEDDAH, 3 October 2007 — The Department of Foreign Affairs is looking for two Filipino workers displaced during the Gulf War who have yet to claim the compensation due them.
In a message to the Philippine Embassy in Riyadh, the Philippine Claims and Compensation Commission Secretariat identified the two as Avelino B. Lumapas Jr. and Romeo A. Tolentino.
Both Lumapas and Tolentino are said to be working in Saudi Arabia.
The embassy asked those who know any of the two unlocated claimants to inform them that they have to call the DFA before Oct. 7, the extended deadline given by the United Nations Compensation Commission (UNCC) for claimants to come forward.
Lumapas and Tolentino are requested to call (632) 8325303 and look for Mike Lorenzo.
Gulf war claimants are Filipino contract workers, companies or agencies affected by the 1990 Iraq-Kuwait war, whose war damage claims were approved by the UNCC. The claim covers expenses incurred by the OFW for departure or travel expenses from Kuwait or Iraq as well as loss of personal properties as a result of the war. Compensations not claimed on due date will be returned to the UNCC under its existing guidelines.
