RIYADH, 7 October 2007 — Mobily launched the very first video mail service in the Kingdom, one of several 3.5G services the company provides to its clients.

The company said in a statement yesterday that the new service provides users with the opportunity to answer video calls at a later time, when they are unable to answer the phone either because they are too busy, away from the phone, or when they don’t have access to 3.5G-capable handsets.

Mobily said the service does not require users to use any specific settings. Users can simply use straightforward ways to utilize the service at a competitive monthly fee of SR10. Video mail can also record as many as five welcome messages, and can store up to 25 video messages. There is a new message notification feature, as well as the ability to send free video messages, and a roaming service.

Mobily added that users can record their own welcome messages, which will be seen by callers, by dialing 1420 and follow the instructions to record their own welcome message. The service also provides a measure of privacy and security through a four-digit PIN number that users activate when they use the service for the first time.

The 1420 service is available for as low as 25 halalas a minute, and the fee for video mail is 50 halalas a minute.

The video mail service allows users to divert video calls according to their needs. They can choose to divert all video calls, or only when the line is busy, or when they are out of coverage, or when they do not wish to answer, or when they are not available. Users can chose any of several ways to activate the service — they can send the words “video mail” via SMS to 1100, or they can use IVR by calling 1100 and select “activate video mail.” They can also use their mobile phones to access the Mobily menu and send #1100*, then select “New from Mobily, then “Video mail” then “activate.”

Internet users can activate the service through Mobily’s website. They can log on to the “my services” page and follow the instructions to activate the service.

Moreover, users can simply call 1100 and ask the customer service representative to activate the service for them.

To view recorded messages, users should call 1420 and follow the instructions. They can also listen to voice only, or they can listen to recorded messages using any other phone by calling +966560101420, in which case they have to punch in the 10-digit mobile number or their four-digit PIN number.

All mobile users can use the service by transferring their numbers from the other mobile service provider to Mobily’s network by using the “my number” service the company had been operating for a long time now. This is an easy procedure, after which users can immediately utilize all Mobily’s services without having to change numbers or check with the other provider. Or customers they have to do is visit one of the 23 Mobily main centers in major cities. Mobily’s employees with fill the required forms and finalize all the switching procedures.
