JEDDAH, 13 October 2007 — A Sudanese expatriate was killed and four others were injured when car overturned on an old road in Afif in the predawn hours on Thursday.
The accident happened while the driver was attempting to avoid running over a stray dog standing on the road. Police patrols and Red Crescent teams carried the accident victims to the Afif General Hospital.
In a similar accident reported from Zalam in the Taif region yesterday, five people were injured when a car strayed off from the road and overturned. The accident occurred when a frightened donkey ran amok on the road and the driver swerved to avoid hitting the animal. The injured passengers were admitted to the Taif Specialist Hospital, according to local press reports.
Meanwhile, a pop-bottle rocket burned down a fiberglass cabin and gutted a car at the Al-Montazah district of Hail. The accident was caused by children playing with fireworks in the street, a common site during the end of Ramadan.
The cabin was full of inflammable waste and a rocket set off by a boy landed inside starting the fire which also gutted a car parked close by, the Arabic daily Al-Madinah reported yesterday.
