RIYADH, 14 October 2007 — An official at the Riyadh mayor’s office denied that a women’s circus, which was part of the municipal Eid celebrations at Al-Suwaid district in southern Riyadh, was canceled because of objections from a section of the people.

Saleh Al-Damaiji, undersecretary for constructions and projects at Riyadh mayor’s office, said the circus was canceled because the acrobatic team arrived late due to passport problems.

The officials denied that the cancellation of the item would affect this year’s municipal celebrations. However, he could not be sure if the women’s circus would be included in the next year’s celebrations.

The programs for next year would be decided when the time approaches, the official was quoted saying yesterday.
