First shown at Detroit in January this year, followed by Canada and more recently at the Frankfurt Motor Show, the award-winning Chevrolet Volt Concept car is claimed to have created great excitement within and outside the motoring community. The Chevrolet Volt concept is the first vehicle to use GM’s new E-flex family of propulsion systems which can offer triple-digit fuel economy. The car is capable of traveling up to 1,030 km without a fuel fill-up or a battery recharge. The Volt draws from GM’s previous experience in starting the modern electric vehicle market when it launched the EV1 in 1996, according to GM Vice Chairman Robert A. Lutz.

FORD GRANTS

Well-deserving environmental and conservational projects in the GCC and Levant countries could get additional financial support as the Ford Motor Company Conservation & Environmental Grants open for 2007-2008. Celebrating its eighth consecutive year in the region, the Ford Grants initiative is the largest program of its kind and has rewarded and fueled over 75 local environmental projects in the Middle East’s participating countries. As with previous years, a total of $90,000 is available to individuals, community or non-profit groups that have projects currently running in the areas of preserving the natural environmental, environmental education and conservation engineering. Application forms are available at Ford, Lincoln and Mercury dealerships in Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, UAE, Oman, Bahrain, Qatar, Lebanon, Syria and Jordan., or the program’s bilingual website.
