JEDDAH, 28 October 2007 — Around 800 job applicants were received yesterday on the first day of the National System for Joint Training employment campaign at the Jeddah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (JCCI).
Young Saudis swarmed the JCCI building queuing up before counters of private companies to submit their applications. Applications were received yesterday exclusively from males, mostly high school graduates.
“There was also a large number of university graduates who came to apply for the jobs,” said Abed Al-Akkad, Saudization director at the JCCI. “Graduates who have majors in subjects that do not match the job they are applying for get training to ensure they fill positions that are needed in the job market,” he said.
Among the applicants were special needs people including those with physical disabilities and hearing impairments.
The Labor Office, the General Organization for Technical and Vocational Training, the JCCI and the Human Resources Development Fund are all supervising the campaign that will continue until Wednesday. Women will be able to submit applications from Sunday to Wednesday.
