Al-JOUF, 5 November 2007 — A Saudi man applied for a visa for a house driver. The man was aware of the normal procedures of applying and paying the local recruitment office in order to send the visa for the driver. He paid the money and nearly two months later, he received a phone call to inform him that the driver had arrived, the Al-Watan daily reported yesterday. He went to the passport office to pickup the driver and to his shock, the passport department gave him a woman. The man told the department that there had been a mistake and that he wanted a driver, not a maid. The passport department said that this was a driver and that she had come to the Kingdom on a driver’s visa. The man refused to accept the woman driver and complained about the time and money that had been wasted in bringing a female driver to a country where women are not allowed to drive. The local recruitment office promised to correct the mistake and compensate the man.
