JEDDAH, 9 November 2007 — The Syrian riders dominated to grab all titles in the first and second round of the Egypt Equestrian International Tournament but Jordanian Ibrahim Bisharat produced his best for last to clinch the first place and win the Grand Prix of the third round in the Egyptian championship.
The championship, second leg of the Arabian Equestrian Championship Series, took place in Alexandria for two weeks and about 30 horsemen participated in the competition representing 12 countries.
The Syrian team whose unexpected performance earned them 5 titles wound up first place overall , while the Saudi equestrian team took second place with three titles courtesy of Prince Abdullah ibn Miteb, Khalid Al-Eid and Abdullah Sharbatly.
Bisharat said “my horse was in his best condition which helped me win the Grand Prix despite the tough competition I faced from the Syrian riders during all three rounds.”
The veteran Saudi rider Al-Eid was philosophical in explaining their side’s failed bid for the championship saying “ I do not know what happened even though we were rated as the No. 1 to win this championship. I think it was not our competition to win. My horse was not ready for this championship and I do not think my training prior to the event was enough.”
