JEDDAH, 11 November 2007 — Jeddah Mayor Adel Fakieh will tonight open the first Gulf Postal Stamps Exhibition at the Sultan Mall on Prince Sultan Road in an event that will be attended by president of Saudi Post, Dr. Muhammad Benten, and other delegates and postal officials from all GCC countries.
Vintage and modern stamps from GCC countries will be put on display at the exhibition, which comprises six main sections. The exhibition coincides with the First International Postal Information Technology Conference, which is being held in the Kingdom and has been jointly organized by the Saudi Post and the Universal Postal Union. Crown Prince Sultan, minister of defense and aviation, will inaugurate the conference next week.
Dr. Benten said that the Saudi section in the exhibition reflects the Kingdom’s developments and historical events. He said that the conference offers a unique chance to understand key challenges to the Kingdom’s postal industry.
He added that in the past few years, Saudi Arabia has developed a number of distinguished stamps referring to terrorism, human rights and municipal elections.
The two-day conference includes speeches by renowned speakers, technology workshops and presentations.
