MUMBAI, 15 November 2007 — Citizens in Maharashtra would now be able to know the status of their applications sent to any government department in the state, thanks to the Document Journey Management System (DJMS).
Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh said people would now have access to the DJMS that has been in place for the past four years but accessible only to concerned government departments.
Kshatrapati Shivaji, secretary for information and technology, said he hoped the new system would provide people easier and quicker access to information about the status of their documents. He added that the DJMS would now be accessed through the Internet making it of great help to people.
Another official of the IT department said, “The intra-accessibility system is in place for the last four years and the documents and their status is easily available for the internal access. We are now considering making the system, particularly in case of certain documents, which are public in nature, accessible to the general public. But it requires a lot of investment in software as well as hardware support.”
He said the security aspects are being looked into to prevent unscrupulous people from using the information for their vested interests.
