JEDDAH, 16 November 2007 — The Blue House and Yellow House emerged champions among the senior and junior teams respectively at the Inter-House Netball tournament held at the Sri Lankan International School here Thursday.

During the senior finals, the Blues scored 24 goals against their opponents who netted only 14 goals. The highest number of goals were scored by Shifna Feroze and Thahira Hussain from the Blue and the Yellow houses . At the junior finals, the Yellows crushed the Blues 19-1.

The two senior teams were skippered by Shifna Feroze from the Blue House and Anissa Akbar from the Yellow House, while the juniors were led by Sumaiya Ilyas from the Yellow House and Chatuni Siriwardene from the Blue House. The two games were refereed by Sakura Liyanage and Nilufa Usuf.

“ The game of netball was introduced for seniors in 2001, and for juniors only this year,” school principal Fareeeda H. Wahab told Arab News, pointing out that the spectators could expect a better game next year from the juniors.

She said the school is keen on promoting extra-curricular activities among the students not only to keep them physically sound but also to inculcate the value of learning from defeat and victories.

“Our students are also engaged in games such as basketball and badminton,” she noted , adding that the annual school athletic meet will be held on Nov. 29.

Even in curricular activities, Wahab said that the school produced good results at the EXDCEL examination in May this year. Mabrul Mansoor — the head prefect was the topper whop obtained 6 As,1 B and a C, followed by deputy head prefect Sahla Naleer who scored 5 As and 3 Bs and Evangeline Emmanuel prefect, obtaining 4 As and 4 Bs.
