MAKKAH, 19 November 2007 — A Saudi in his 20s died after falling from the roof of his house in the Al-Kudwa district of Makkah Friday night. The man, who lived with his parents in a house on top of a mountain, was sleeping on the open roof.

According Nuruddin, a relative, the man fell 15 meters and died immediately. Police questioned family members initially suspecting foul play.

“He used to sleep on the roof of the house, because the weather is nice at night. The roof was open and there were no walls surrounding it,” said Nuruddin.

The young man had gone to sleep after buying water and groceries from a local store. “Around midnight his mother heard a bang, as if something had fallen. She looked out the window and saw her son’s body lying in a pool of blood,” Nuruddin said.

Zaki Al-Rehaili, spokesman for Makkah police, confirmed that the youth’s death was an accident. He was buried on Saturday.
