MAKKAH, 20 November 2007 — Civil Defense firefighters extinguished a minor fire that broke out at the new extension of the masaa (the running track between Safa and Marwa in the Grand Mosque complex) yesterday.
“The fire did not cause any deaths or injuries,” said Capt. Abdullah Al-Amri, spokesman of the Civil Defense. He blamed an electric short-circuit for the fire.
A number of firefighting teams headed by Col. Jameel Arbaeen, director of the Civil Defense in Makkah, rushed to the site soon after the fire broke out.
A firefighter was taken to hospital for smoke inhalation while an injured worker was treated at the site.
