The Lebanese Broadcasting Corporation (LBC) broadcasts a candid camera program. I don’t think the material presented is fit to be called a program. It slipped the mind of its producers that this type of repeated unprofessional production is outdated and old-fashioned. The program is called “As You Wish” or “Ala Keefak” and I believe that they forgot to add the word “mockery”.
The show is a total degradation of human beings. Unfortunately, they are humiliating the humanitarian side of their guests so that people can have a laugh. I think that this is a very desperate attempt to be comic and no respected television channel should agree to it.
One of the episodes portrays a group of fake judges witnessing acting auditions. They bring all types of naïve and stupid people who are sometimes in need of money and have no acting experience whatsoever to imitate a donkey or a cow and embarrass them in front of others. Some of the contestants are illiterate so the judges insist on them reading just to embarrass them.
How low can any program be to expose people’s lacks and shortcomings in such sarcastic ways?
I believe that the main objective of the media is to elevate people’s thinking and not make fun of it. Do the makers of this show honestly believe that there is anything funny about having a man go down on his knees and imitating a donkey? It might be useful in a children’s play to deliver a certain message but to deliberately mock a human being just to have a little bit of fun is not acceptable.
I sincerely applaud the director of this show, Omar Al-Jaser, and the genius who prepared the program, Mohammad Al-Zahrani, for being extremely excellent in composing such jokes!
