JEDDAH, 5 December 2007 - A 17-year-old high school girl, who disappeared from a school in Jeddah a month ago, telephoned her father recently from Yemen saying she had been kidnapped by a male acquaintance and wanted to return home.
The girl, who is called Noha, rang her father crying and asking for forgiveness, Al-Madinah daily reported yesterday.
Noha had disappeared from school and was found to be missing when her father went to pick her up at home time. The man told Al-Madinah that he had his daughter’s name announced over the school’s loudspeakers and waited at the school for several hours before reporting her missing to police.
Noha telephoned a few days ago saying she had eloped with a young Yemeni national and asked for forgiveness for the pain she has caused her relatives. She told her father that the couple stayed in Jeddah for a few days after which the man drove her to Yemen without telling her that they were leaving Saudi Arabia. She told her father that on reaching Yemen, she was forced to marry the man.
Noha’s father has notified police.
Al-Madinah also reported that pupils at Noha’s school knew where Noha had gone and who she was with.
The newspaper also reported that police have visited the Yemeni man’s relatives, including an uncle, in Jeddah. A police spokesman said that the Yemeni national had visited relatives asking for money and had taken SR200 from his uncle.
