JEDDAH, 12 December 2007 — Makkah Gov. Prince Khaled Al-Faisal toured King Abdul Aziz International Airport yesterday to inspect the preparations made for pilgrims flying in to perform Haj. The governor was briefed about facilities being provided at the new Haj Terminal. Later, he met pilgrims arriving at the airport and wished them a safe Haj. He presented them with souvenirs.

Mazen Khashoggi, the airport’s director general, said as of yesterday the number of pilgrims entering the Kingdom through the airport had exceeded 800,000, with an average of 200 pilgrims arriving per flight.

Khashoggi said the new Haj Terminal is 40 percent complete and can handle 1,250 pilgrims an hour. When the rest of the project is completed next year the capacity would increase to 3,800 pilgrims an hour, he said.
