JEDDAH, 12 December 2007 — Police arrested two Indonesian expatriates operating a grocery store at Al-Zahra district in north Jeddah for allegedly selling Haj permits. Police reportedly arrested them red-handed in possession of forged residency documents.
The first suspect is Muhammad Khairy, a 28-year-old legal expatriate. He came to the Kingdom to work as a driver, but he didn’t work for his sponsor. The second suspect is Muhammad Akram. He came to perform Umrah last year and overstayed his iqama. Both reportedly confessed to their crimes.
“The suspects will be transferred to the Passport Department to be checked with the fingerprint system for any other criminal charges,” said a source at the police department, referring to a recently implemented system to track people entering the Kingdom on pilgrim visas.
