MUMBAI, 13 December 2007 — Security was beefed up around ‘Mannat’ the residence of Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan at Bandstand, in the Bandra suburb and his cell phone and home phone were placed under surveillance following threats from Bunty Pandey, a breakaway gang leader of mafia don Chotta Rajan.
According to police sources, Khan didn’t file a written complaint, but verbally informed the Mumbai police and the Anti Terrorist Squad (ATS) officials, that the alleged gangster was demanding 200 million Indian rupees ($5 million) from the actor, soon after his movie “Om Shanti Om” did exceptionally well at the box office.
Pandey is also said to have made several calls to Khan threatening him if he did not come up with the extortion money and even sent six of his henchmen to Khan’s residence.
Acting on the complaint by the actor, ATS officials are said to have traced several phone calls made by Pandey and have issued a warrant for his arrest.
