JEDDAH — Al-Hilal and Saudi Arabia team captain Yasser Al-Qahtani was yesterday reported to be in the UK for a tryout with Manchester City football club.
The 25-year old Asian Player of the Year arrived in Manchester with Hilal President Prince Mohammed ibn Faisal, according to a report from the news site Goal.com.
Al-Qahtani will join up at Eastlands for a trial with Sven-Goran Eriksson’s Manchester City, with the Hilal striker being eager to score a permanent move to the Premiership, the report said.
“I’m now in England after I got an invitation letter from Manchester City,” Al-Qahtani was quoted by Goal.com as telling the Manchester Evening News.
“I’m here with Al-Hilal President Prince Mohammed ibn Faisal and my agent Turki Al Mukairin.
“I’m glad to train with such a good club in England and I will try my best to prove that Saudi players are good players.”
Al-Qahtani had previously been offered a trial at Chelsea after being named Asian Player of the Year. The 25-year-old has scored 32 times in 45 appearances for the Saudi national side.
