DAMMAM, 27 December 2007 — A 23-year-old man has admitted to setting on fire the family home in Qatif that killed his 73-year-old father and seriously injured his 58-year-old mother, Al-Watan reported yesterday.
The man, who was drunk at the time, set the home on fire by releasing inflammable gas. According to authorities, the man’s father died of serious burns. His mother is currently fighting for life at the Qatif Central Hospital having suffered second-degree burns to her head, arms and chest.
Police sources said the man is a drug-addict with a history of crimes. His sisters, who used to live in the same house, had vacated the place after the he had threatened to kill them.
According to local residents, the man was seen pushing his mother back into the burning inferno. The youngster then fled the scene. The badly burned body of the man’s father is currently lying in hospital and will be soon handed to relatives once investigations are completed.
