AMMAN, 31 December 2007 — Jordan and Syria yesterday signed 12 agreements for bilateral cooperation designed to resolve several outstanding issues and upgrade ties between the two neighboring countries to unprecedented levels.
The accords cover a variety of spheres foremost merchandise, industry, agriculture, housing, health, water, culture and supplying Jordan with Syrian cereals. The conclusion of the agreements came at the end of a two-day meeting of the Joint Higher Jordanian-Syrian Commission that was presided over by Syrian Prime Minister Muhammed Naji Al-Otari and his Jordanian counterpart Nader Dahabi.
In their speeches, Dahabi and al-Otari stressed the need for boosting bilateral ties in all fields between the two countries so as they serve as a “model” to be followed by other Arab states.
The two sides also discussed latest developments in the region in the wake of the Nov. 27 Annapolis conference that was attended by the two countries.
Dahabi told a press conference that Jordan and Syria were in agreement that the Palestinian question represented “the core of the Middle East conflict”.
“The two countries were also in agreement that peace and stability will not materialize in the region without a negotiated, just and comprehensive solution.”
