ASIR, 31 December 2007 — A group of car thieves in Asir found an easy and safe way to rob people without getting caught, Al-Madinah reported yesterday. The group checked out a vehicle parked in a private residence and made their move after midnight. But before they even touched the car, they chained all the exits of the house so no one could go in or come out. As they started the car, the house owner woke up but when he tried to open the house door, he found it jammed shut. The thieves made a clean getaway and the house owner was forced to escape from his own house through window. A few days later, police found the car in Jizan where the thieves were attempting to smuggle it across the border into Yemen.
Commission ‘Welcomes’ New Year With Raids
JEDDAH, 31 December 2007 — The Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice has taken measures to prevent the public from celebrating the New Year. According to a report carried by Al-Madinah daily, the commission officials, in association with other agencies, will raid shops selling flowers, gifts and candles to prospective New Year celebrants.
