RIYADH, 4 January 2007 — Abdullah Al Murry of UAE and the Syrian duo of Shadi Ghareeb and Tariq Arnaawt delighted the large crowd at the National Security Equestrian field in Riyadh when they claimed the top three places in the 5th round of the Arabian League at the weekend.
Of the 30 Arab show jumpers gathered in Riyadh, Al Murry produced a second clear round with an impressively quick time that proved unbeatable, despite the best efforts of other Syrian contenders.
Ghareeb finished second with countryman Arnaawt in third place and Al Al Rumihi of Qatar in fourth position. A delighted Al Murry said:”This is just fabulous for us as a team and after this round we won three titles and hope to get more during the next rounds in order to qualify for the World Cup.” For his part, Arnaawt said, “With the results we achieved in Riyadh, I think we are on the top of the table of the Arabian League.”
Prince Abdullah bin Miteb who grabbed third place overall in the league, standings said, “In the Arabian League it is not important to win the grand prix prize but how to collect more points and this is what the Saudi team and the Syrian team are aiming at.”
After the 5th round, Egypt remained in first place followed by Syria. Saudi Arabia moved up from fifth to third place and UAE fourth thanks mainly to the victory of Al Murry.
Youth Welfare Presidency Deputy President Prince Nawaf bin Faisal presented prizes to the winners during the prize giving ceremony.
