AHSA, 4 January 2007 — Two wives are on the lookout for a third and even a fourth wife for their husband who works as a teacher and a mosque imam, the Okaz daily reported yesterday. The second wife, a mother of two and a university graduate, said that she has no problem with her husband marrying for the third or even fourth time. She added that she has taken it upon herself to find new wives for her husband whom she described as being decent. The man has apparently given both his wives “specifications and conditions” that the new wives must meet. The report did not mention what his conditions were. The man’s current wives live in the same apartment building, however have separate apartments. He has already rented out to other apartments in the same building and is eagerly awaiting the new arrivals.

Oops! Sorry, Here’s Your Money Back

RIYADH, 4 January 2007 — Perhaps he just forgot to mention one small detail: that his wife is dead. The Al-Watan daily reported yesterday that the Social Security Agency at the Ministry of Social Affairs recently discovered a Saudi man had been withdrawing his deceased wife’s social security pensions on her behalf for the past 13 years. When the ministry confronted the man, he admitted to the offense and subsequently returned the money. The undersecretary of the Ministry of Social Affairs, Mohammed Al-Akla, said that the ministry accepted the money after the man expressed regret for his behavior. Lucky guy: In some countries you’d be sent to prison for defrauding the government.
