JEDDAH, 9 January 2008 — To the Filipinos in Jeddah and nearby places who have been asking for another round of computer training, your wish has been granted.

On Jan. 11, at 8 a.m., the Overseas Filipino Workers Cooperative Council (OFWCC) will open its 22nd Computer Literacy Seminar series, which will run for eight Fridays at Tropicana Restaurant along Tahlia St. corner Madinah Road.

“This short-course is intended for OFWs who work, office staff or others who want to equip themselves with the current software applications using the Windows-based programs,” OFWCC Chairman Wenfred Castolome said in a statement.

“It is designed to provide beginners or new computer users into the basics of computer operations,” he said.

To be taught during the seminar are MS Windows Vista, MS Word 2007, MS Excel 2007, MS Power Point, MS Access 2007, and Adobe Photoshop CS2 (image editing).

The technical side of the course include Basic PC Networking and PC Assembly.

Participants will be made to familiarize themselves with PC parts or computer hardware, software set-up, configuration and troubleshooting.

To conduct the hands-on training are the council’s volunteer lecturers headed by Microsoft-certified systems engineer Rudy Carillo, Ernie Geslani, Dan Factoran and Jimmy Leonida, with the support of the Secretariat members.

Formed in June 1996, the OFWCC, a federation of cooperatives operating in western Saudi Arabia, has also been organizing entrepreneurship seminars and other skills enhancement program for OFWs in line with the Philippine government’s re-integration program.

Castolome said the council’s new set of officers will also take their “oath of office” on Jan. 11.

This year’s officers are Fortunato “Atoy” Esguerra, chairman; Mohd. Isa de Jesus, vice chairman; Arlen Sallador, secretary; Miles Lacson, assistant secretary; Bernie Gojo, treasurer; Wilson Salvador, asst. treasurer; Leo Trijo, auditor; Ramil Vasquez, assistant auditor; Eugene Delfin, PRO; and Ric Tibayan, Joe Paduga, and Dennis Demosthenis, Peace Officers.

Adullah SanPedro, the executive board adviser and outgoing Chairman Castolome will head the combined Inter-Cooperative and Entrepreneurship committees.
