RIYADH, 31 January 2008 — The annual Inter-School Cricket Tournament in Riyadh organized by Riyadh Cricket Association (RCA) kicks off today at the RCA grounds in Sulay area.
Sri Lankan International School in Riyadh Under-19 team take on Bangladesh International School (English Section) today. The Sri Lankan team will be captained by Buddhika Abeyratne, while the opposing team’s skipper is Khan Mohamed Ashik.
Zultec, a leading multinational company, will sponsor this year’s event. At a meeting with RCA officials Zultec CEO Zulqarnain Ali Khan agreed for the sponsorship and expressed full support for a successful tournament this year. He further said that Zultec will be in the forefront for any cricketing activities especially for youngsters as they form the future generation . Abdul Qadeer Mirza, president of RCA, thanked Zultec for their support to the association. “Since the last 4 years, RCA has been conducting this unique event where students from different schools enjoy playing the game with fun, healthy competition and sportive spirit,” he added.
He also said that RCA is planning to organize a GCC interschool tournament where school teams from Gulf countries will be invited to participate. Mirza invited parents and their relatives of participating players to come to the grounds to cheer them and encourage the young players. The tournament will be held for two age groups, Under-15 and Under -19. He also briefed the Physical Education teachers of all participating schools on the rules and regulations of the tourney . Coaches of the respective schools were requested to maintain discipline and play the matches with the spirit of sportsmanship .
RCA has formed a three member committee comprising Rehan Khan, .Tareq Butt and .Aslam Sheikh to supervise the matches of the tournament. All schools have been requested to coordinate with these members for any information regarding the rules and regulations of the event. The schools entered include Manarath Al Riyadh School, Pakistan International School (Nasseriya), Indian International School, Sri Lankan International School, Bangla Desh International School, Middle East International School, Al Jawahar International School, Al Mansoor International School, Delhi Public School, Pakistan International School (Sulemania) and Indian Public School.
Under-15 age group
Group A — Indian Public School, Al Mansoor School, Indian International School, Pakistan International School (Sulemania) and Middle East International School
Group B — Pakistan International School (Nasseriya), Manarath Al Riyadh School, Sri Lankan International School and Bangla Desh International School.
Under-19 age group:
Group A — Pakistan International School (Naseriya), Indian International School, Jawahar International School and Pakistan International School (Sulemania)
Group B — Manarath Al Riyadh School, Middle East International School, Sri Lankan International School and Bangla Desh International School.
