JEDDAH — The Court of Grievances has acquitted an official of the Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice in the Eastern Province — who was accused by a woman of attempting to rape her — an informed source said.
The woman, 18, alleged that the official entered her house and tried to rape her. According to a report carried by Al-Watan Arabic daily, the man was declared not guilty by the court due to lack of evidence or witnesses. The Court of Grievances also noticed contradictions in the woman’s statements as appeared in the reports of the Commission for Investigation and Public Prosecution and police.
The public prosecution then leveled two charges against the man: misuse of power and improper treatment as the official, according to the woman, had followed her outside working hours. But the official denied any wrongdoing and said he had only advised the woman not to show off her beauty, adding that he was doing his religious duty. He also pointed out that there was another woman with her while he was speaking to her.
