JEDDAH - A group of Keralites representing different cultural and political organizations recently organized "Malappuram Fest" with a variety of cultural programs. A documentary on the history and development of Malappuram, directed by P.T. Kunhi Mohammed, was also displayed.
Usman Irumpuzhi, president of the group, said his organization would promote charitable activities to help the poor and establish educational institutions. He said it was the first time Keralite expatriates from the district of Malappuram were organizing such a grand festival.
"We formed this group about two months ago," Irumpuzhi told Arab News. He said the group would promote indigenous Malappuram art forms such as oppana, kolkali and Badr padappat. Moussa Varikkodan was the program convener.
