JEDDAH, 5 March 2008 — The Arab Equestrian League competition moves to Doha, Qatar for the 10th round starting today. Fadi Al-Zabibi of Syria leads the overall standings with 85 points. Prince Abdullah ibn Miteb of Saudi Arabia and teammate Khalid Al-Eid occupy second and third with 68 and 61 points, followed by Ali Al-Rumaihi of Qatar (61 points), Abdullah Al-Marri of UAE (61 points), Osamah Burai Egypt (56 points), Shadi Ghareib Syria (55 points), Yassir Al-Shareif Syria (49 points), Ahmed Basyouni Egypt (41 points), Sheikh Ali Khalid Al-Thani Qatar (41 points), and Kareim Hamdi Egypt (40 points).
Charity Marathon Race
JEDDAH, 5 March 2008 — In cooperation with Riyadh Marathon Society, the Dirab Golf Club in Riyadh will host a charity marathon race on Friday with 70 runners of various nationalities expected to answer the starting gun at 7. am. in the 42 -kilometer race on foot. The race will be spread over six rounds with each round to cover 7 kilometers. Al-marai Company, French Corner, and Dirab Golf Club are the event sponsors. The proceeds will go to Sanad Charity Society.
Saudi Duo for World Indoors Meet
JEDDAH, 5 March 2008 — Saudi long jumpers Mohammed Al-Khuwaildi and Hussain Al-Saba are seeing action in the 12th IAAF World Indoor Championships to be held in Valencia, Spain from March 7 to 9.
The official to accompany the duo will be Suhail Al-Zawawi, secretary-general of the Saudi Athletic Federation for Amateurs. Meanwhile, Saudi Youth Welfare President Prince Sultan had honored both athletes recently for achievements in the Asian Indoor Championship. Al-Khuwaildi placed first in a new Asian record of 8.24 meters and Al-Saba third with 7.93.
Special Needs Athletes Claim 7 Medals
JEDDAH, 5 March 2008 — The Saudi special needs national athletics team won 5 gold medals and two silver at the West Asian championship, which ended Monday in Dubai. Saeed Al-Khalidi won the gold in 100 meters and just missed a sprint double when he took the silver in 200 meters. Fahad Al-Junaidel was also a triple medal winner winning the 400 meters and 200 meters gold medals and the 100 meters silver. The other gold medalists were Waleed Al-Eda and Abdullah Al-Fifi.
Saudi Judokas Set for Morocco Tilt
JEDDAH, 5 March 2008 — The Saudi national judo team will travel to Morocco next week for the Morocco International Judo Championship from March 11 to 17. After Morocco the team will compete in the Tunisia International Judo Championship and Algeria International Championship. The Saudis are entered in four weight categories: Eissa Majrashi and Ali Al-Minyawi in the 60kgs, Abdulrhman Al-Hazmi in the 66kgs, and Yassir Ayyad in the 73kgs. Coach Mohammed Subai will join the team.
