RAIGAD, India, 8 March 2008 — In a performance par excellence, the Raigad district police in the Konkan region of Maharashtra scored high points against its counterparts in the state in solving more than 80 percent of disputes under the innovative scheme for alternative dispute-free village mission launched by the government last July.
Following this unparalleled success in the history of police in India, the federal government has nominated Raigad police for Commonwealth Association for Public Administration and Management (CAPAM) 2008 Innovations Awards in Canada this year.
Raigad Deputy Superintendent of Police Pratap Dighavkar told Arab News that the alternative dispute-free village mission was the brainchild of Deputy Chief Minister R.R. Patil.
Dighavkar said the theme of the 2007-2008 CAPAM International Innovations Awards program is “Citizen’s Engagement and Service Delivery.” Nominations for CAPAM is confined to 52 countries and a gold medal is awarded to the winner.
“I’m very optimistic and confident that we would bag the medal,” Dighavkar said.
The theme has been selected to elicit examples of innovative practices in providing public services that respond to needs and wishes of citizens.
