The BMG Saudi Index ended the week on a negative note. The index fell by 0.2 percent to 543.49 points. The total turnover, however, shot up to SR4.7 billion ($1.3 billion), versus SR2.8 billion ($757 million), registered in Tuesday’s session.
The electricity sector was the worst performer, going down by 3.5 percent, whereas the insurance, services, and industrial sectors descended by 1.3 percent, 1.1 percent, and 0.1 percent, respectively. The best performer was the agricultural sector, gaining 0.5 percent to its closing level, whilst the telecommunications and the banking sectors rose, by 0.4 percent and 0.2 percent, respectively. Most of the shares ended the last trading session of this week in the red zone, as 20 shares depreciated and only seven appreciated. Saudi International Petrochemical Company registered the best performance, moving up by 2.8 percent to SR36.25 per share, whilst Saudi Indian Company for Cooperative Insurance was the worst performer for the second consecutive trading session, declining by 3.7 percent to SR83.75 per share. Saudi Basic Industries Corp. (SABIC) lost 0.14 percent of its previous closing price to reach SR181.00, whereas Al-Rajhi Bank’s share price moved ahead by 0.3 percent to SR96.25 per share; however, it could not drive the BMG Saudi Index toward positive territory.
