DUBAI, 25 March 2008 — Dubai Logistics City (DLC), the world’s first multi-modal integrated logistics platform, to be operational this yearend in Jebel Ali, will provide a major boost to Gulf imports through enhanced transportation links, said logistics industry veteran Michael Proffitt.
His statement came on the eve of the Gulf Logistics Forum that taking place today and tomorrow (25-26 March, 2008) at Hotel Shangri-la in Dubai where he will be the keynote speaker.
DLC, a key component of Dubai World Central (DWC), the huge 140 square kilometer urban aviation project, has been instrumental in attracting over 150 of the world’s top logistics and supply-chain companies in making Dubai their regional operations hub. “The region has seen tremendous imports and exports growth over the past decade, which has called for increased logistics solutions through key regional hubs like Dubai,” said Proffitt.
“DLC offers a unique opportunity to regional and international companies to establish their regional headquarters in the fast developing supply chain community.
“Gulf imports reached an astonishing $320 billion by the end of 2007; Dubai will be positioned to capture a major part of this business through DLC, which provides innovative opportunities for a constraint-free business environment in terms of legal, logistics, commercial and infrastructure offerings,” he said. Meanwhile, Dubai Maritime City, the world’s first purpose-built maritime centre and member of the Dubai World Group, has announced that it is poised to expand its international network and bolster brand recognition in the Asian region as it participates as sponsor in the Asia Pacific Maritime 2008 exhibition and conference being held at the Singapore Expo Hall 3 from tomorrow to Friday.
