JEDDAH, 27 March 2008 — The Saudi Basketball Federation Club Championship playoffs start today at the Prince Abdullah Al-Faisal Sports Complex here. Gametime is at 4 p.m.
This year the field consists of the top eight teams in the SBF. Each team can import three players, a move that is guaranteed to boost the quality and intensity of the games. The teams were put in two groups. Group A has Ansar, Ittihad, Hilal, and Qadisia. In Group B are Ohud, Ahli, Fath, and Wehda.
In the first round each team plays three games in their group. After four days on Monday, the four top teams start the second round ending with the top two teams playing the best two out of three for the championship. The first game today will be Ansar against Qadisia at 4 p.m. The second game sends Ittihad against Hilal at 6 p.m. and the third game at 8 p.m. pits Ohud against Wehda.
Ittihad have won the cup seven times, Hilal four times, Ohud twice, and Ahli once. This year Ansar is a favorite along with Hilal and Ittihad.
