ISLAMABAD, 6 April 2008 — Hussain Haqqani, a former media adviser to Nawaz Sharif, has been appointed Pakistan’s ambassador to the United States. A postgraduate from Karachi University, Haqqani also served as information secretary during Benazir Bhutto’s second term as prime minister. Confirming his appointment, Haqqani told Arab News: “My appointment has been confirmed by the prime minister and the president and I am now awaiting the approval of the US administration.”

PNS Badr

JEDDAH, 6 April 2008 — A Pakistan Navy ship, PNS Badr, is currently on a goodwill-cum-training visit to Jubail port until April 10. The ship was commissioned March 1, 1994 at Devonport, England and is the fourth Type 21 Frigate included in the Pakistan Navy. Fitted with harpoon missiles, the ship is capable of engaging targets at standoff ranges. Capt. Khalid Rashid is the commanding officer of the ship. The ship’s crew will visit some Saudi naval institutions. The ship is open to Pakistani expatriate visitors from today until Tuesday from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Free Medical Clinic

RIYADH, 6 April 2008 — Pakistani doctors have organized a free medical clinic for the community twice a week (Saturday and Monday) from 10 a.m. to 12 noon. The team will offer medical assistance and advice.
