RIYADH, 28 April 2008 — Queen Rania of Jordan visited Sultan ibn Abdul Aziz Humanitarian City yesterday where she was received by Princess Abeer bint Turki, Dr. Majed Al-Qassabi, general manager of the city, and Dr. Abdul Aziz Al-Shamekh, CEO of the city.
“I am delighted to visit and witness the services and activities at Sultan Humanitarian City. Since its establishment, the city has become an outstanding provider of humanitarian services across the Arab world and is standing up to its noble mission of helping people to help themselves,” said Rania.
At the end of her visit, Queen Rania was presented with a souvenir comprising a number of hand painted drawings with the city’s logo, symbolizing the hope of children to lead healthy lives and be active members of society.
The Jordanian queen, who is on her first official visit to the Kingdom, addressed a symposium on learning and technology in Jeddah on Saturday.
She called for a global dialogue to dismantle stereotypes of Muslims on the one hand and measures to end the suppression of women in the Arab world on the other.
“It is through a global dialogue that such stereotypes of Muslims can be dismantled, and it is through women’s sustained education and progress that such misconceptions can be removed,” the queen said in her keynote address at symposium organized by Effat College.
