RIYADH, 28 May 2008 — Dr. Saleh ibn Abdullah Al-Malik, secretary-general of the Shoura Council, died on Monday at the age of 67. Funeral prayers for Al-Malik were held at Al-Rajhi Mosque here yesterday.
Al-Malik was first appointed a Shoura member in 1993 and served the consultative body for 16 years. He also worked as an undersecretary at the Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs.
Before joining the civil service, he worked as a lecturer at Umm Al-Qura University, an associate professor at King Saud University and associate professor at Michigan University in the US.
Al-Malik obtained a doctorate in social science from the University of Michigan and a master’s degree in social science from Wayne State University. He wrote a number of books and conducted field research on social, political and economic topics.
Hamad Al-Qadi, a member of the Shoura, said Al-Malik’s death was a big loss not only for the Shoura but also for the Kingdom. “He was a good parliamentarian, a poet and a linguist,” Al-Qadi said.
