DUBAI: A five-year-old Emirati girl died after an operation to remove her tonsils went wrong as the doctor accidentally cut one of her arteries.
The girl’s father, Ahmad Al-Naqbi, accused the doctor of negligence, which resulted in his daughter’s death.
In a case filed against the hospital at the Kalba police station, Al-Naqbi claimed his daughter was given the wrong blood type during the operation. “The surgical team gave her blood type O instead of her blood type A,” he said.
Al-Naqbi said that the routine one-hour operation took more than two hours and that is when he realized something was wrong.
He said that his daughter was sedated for more than 20 hours until she died.
He added that the cut in the artery resulted in internal bleeding that led to her death.
“What I found to be disturbing was the fact that the doctor who performed the operation was not available after that. Even though my daughter’s condition was deteriorating the hospital staff were not able to contact the doctor who did not answer his phone,” he said.
The hospital staff refused to answer any questions. A source from the Ministry of Health said that the child’s body has been transferred to the coroner who will perform an autopsy.
