JEDDAH: A badly burned body of a woman was found smoldering in a discarded refrigerator in Jeddah’s Aziziya district. Thirty-two kilometers outside the city, reports of a foul smell turned up a decomposing body of a man wearing only underwear. In the centrally located Al-Fayha district, a cleaning worker found in a trash bin a dismembered body in a garbage bag; police are still looking for some of the body parts.
These are just three of a number of suspected homicides that Jeddah police recently announced they were stepping up efforts to solve. People living around these grisly discoveries are calling for increased patrols.
All cases have occurred in the past three weeks. The body of the woman in the discarded fridge was discovered near the Department of Women’s Education building in Aziziya after somebody reported seeing smoke coming from the area where the refrigerator had been discarded.
The body was so disfigured that police are not sure they will ever be able to identify it or the circumstances that led to the woman’s death without further evidence or tips.
The decomposing body of a man in his underwear was discovered after an Egyptian doorman for a local resort tried to identify the source of the foul smell of rotting flesh.
A pack of feral dogs had been feeding off the corpse, and the body was so badly disfigured that police are facing the same predicament as with the body of the woman in the fridge. Police suspect that the body had been dumped there after the person was killed.
Police are having a little more luck with the case of the dismembered, headless, feetless corpse in the trash bag. A woman reported that she had not heard from her husband in a while, and that he was not answering his phone. Relatives were able to identify the body and told police that the man had been missing for several days. The absent body parts, however, are still out there, somewhere.
Body on Yanbu beach
Police in Yanbu are still investigating what happened to a woman whose body was found on the beach recently.
The body was found after police searched for the source of a strong smell of decay. They dug up a trash bag that contained the decomposing body of a woman of Asian nationality.
Forensic evidence suggests the woman died two days earlier from blows to the head.
The incident brought back the memory of a headless body of a woman found about two years ago near a gas station in Yanbu Al-Bahar.
